WELCOME MESSAGES
================================================================================
FROM: Raminder Nirula, MD, MPH — Program Chair & Recorder
Welcome to Dallas and the AAST's 85th Annual Meeting!
Dallas has some fantastic attractions – Dealey Plaza, a sprawling Arts District, world class BBQ, incredible restaurants and it is the birthplace of the frozen margarita!
That aside the guest lectures, science, panels, courses, and extra sessions for this year's meeting will prove to be provocative, informative and provide you with new approaches to apply to your practice or research. Case in point, our expert surgeon lecture will be delivered by Dr. Brendan Visser who is a pancreatic surgeon at Stanford with significant experience with necrotizing pancreatitis that will inform his talk. The Fitt's lecture will be delivered by past president Dr. Martin Croce which will undoubtedly be inspiring.
Building on a format from last year that stimulated great discussion is a scoping review panel discussion (Where Evidence Meets Practice) of several emerging therapies and guidelines in Acute Care Surgery lead by Dr. Paula Ferrada. Panel II, led by Dr. Matthew Martin, will enlighten us with a discussion of the data, economics, pitfalls and pros of implementing an ACS robotics program in your hospital.
Back by popular demand are the always well-attended Emergency Surgery and Neurocritical Care Board Review Courses. The other add-on and lunch sessions are not to be missed with topics ranging from AI in ACS, a large-scale mass casualty tabletop exercise and a special session to assist early researchers with their research proposals supported by successful researchers in our field.
The oral presentations, quick shots, and posters have been selected with the intent of providing you with actionable ways in which you can improve patient care delivery or support next steps in research lines that will lead to novel therapeutics.
I am eager to see you all for what will prove to be another illuminating meeting and welcome your thoughts on how we can continue to provide you with an annual meeting that fuels your passion in what we do.

FROM: Kimberly A. Davis, MD, MBA — AAST President
Dear AAST Members and Guests,
We are excited to welcome you to the 85th Annual Meeting of AAST and Clinical Congress of Acute Care Surgery in Dallas. Our program committee, under the able leadership of Dr. Raminder Nirula, has assembled an outstanding program with the opportunity to learn about the latest advances in our field. I am delighted to announce that Dr. Martin A. Croce has agreed to be our Fitts Orator this year. Dr. Croce is the Chief Medical Officer of Region One Health in Memphis and a past president of the Association. Dr. Brendan C. Visser from Stanford will be our invited Master Surgeon lecturer. Dr. Visser is Professor of Surgery and Section Chief of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery with an expertise in the management of infected pancreatic necrosis, a complex disease process with a myriad of surgical options and variable outcomes. I look forward to both featured orations and am honored to introduce these two exceptional surgical leaders.
In addition to these two lectures, there will be two panel sessions. One panel, led by Dr. Matthew Martin, will focus on the increasing role of robotic surgery in Acute Care Surgery, with a focus on programmatic development and case mix selection. The second panel, led by Dr. Paula Ferrada, will present a scoping review "When evidence meets practice." As you know, there are also multiple interactive pre-sessions and numerous lunch sessions, each representing great content from our hard-working committees at AAST. And finally, the science presented in our main sessions, poster sessions, and quick shot sessions should have you up to date on the latest developments in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
As always, there will be several opportunities to support career development and networking. The Leadership Academy will have its fall meeting. In addition, we will host the third in-person meeting of the Women in Trauma Surgery (WITS) group with a reception this year. WITS is open to all, and you do not need to be a member of AAST to join.
We are excited about the program and are looking forward to seeing you all in Dallas.
Have a wonderful summer and see you in Dallas!
Kim
